Jackson & Pollock 4-Site Method
PROA balanced approach between accuracy and practicality, using four skinfold sites. Offers excellent reliability while being more time-efficient than the 7-site method.
Method Overview
The 4-site method provides a practical compromise between the comprehensive 7-site protocol and the quicker 3-site version. It maintains high accuracy while reducing measurement time, making it ideal for regular tracking.
- Accuracy: ±3.5-4.5% compared to hydrostatic weighing
- Validated across diverse populations
- Gender-specific equations
- Excellent for tracking changes
- Good balance of time and precision
Measurement Protocol
Measurement Sites
For Men:
- Chest
- Abdomen
- Thigh
- Triceps
For Women:
- Triceps
- Suprailiac
- Abdomen
- Thigh
Measurement Tips:
- Take measurements on the right side
- Pinch skin and fat only, not muscle
- Hold caliper perpendicular to skinfold
- Read after 2-second compression
- Take 2-3 measurements at each site
